About Munja

Marieke Koemans-Kokkelink founded Munja in 2004. After a great 23 years in IT as EMEA sales and marketing manager, I found that it was time to do something else that would combine sustainability and sales.

Went back to West Australia where I was raised, for a vacation and came in contact with Mount Romance, a company that had one focus to preserve the knowledge and heritage of the Aboriginals. Established in 1997, Mt Romance pioneered the distillation and use of Australian Sandalwood (Santalum spicatum) in the fragrance industry. Today they are the world’s largest distiller of sandalwood oil, and works to support local and global communities through their commitment to quality, sustainability and ethical business.

Because I just started my own company I needed a name, and found it important to have it linked to WA.

So it became Munja, given to me by the West Australian Aboriginals.   Munja means connecting but also harbours mundial in it.

After Mount Romance, I was asked by the ABN/AMRO to find a solution on how to break through the spiralling problem they had at the rehab facility in India Mumbai. Additionally create awareness of  there CSR at Amsterdam HQ. The solution was a corporate sportswear collection. From there on worked on several projects to build CSR Awareness. In 2013 finished my CSR Post Doctorate at the Erasmus University. Since than I have been working with companies that have the need to become more sustainable. Munja's strength lies in the ability to translate CSR to a tangible proposition for employees but also your customers & stakeholders. 

 

 

In the last 14 years I have built a network of all kinds of people that are driven and passionate to make this world a better place.

The choice for a network company is because sustainability is not for just one market or corporate, it is OUR responsibility. 

Therefor Munja has built a network of knowledge across industries and the necessary expertise. During the project we can have the right expertise for each phase.
